Guest of Honour - Ben Jeapes
Everything you need to know
Ben Jeapes
After an overdose of TV science fiction as a child, Ben’s
Plan A was to become a great science fiction author. To that end his novels to
date are: His Majesty’s Starship; The Xenocide Mission; Time’s
Chariot; The New World Order; Phoenicia’s Worlds; The
Teen, the Witch & the Thief; and The Comeback of the King. His
short story collection Jeapes Japes is available from Wizard’s Tower
Press. He is also the author of H.M.S. Barabbas (first in the further
adventures of Jim Hawkins), and his non-fiction children’s biography Ada
Lovelace (David Fickling Books 2019) was chosen by the National Science
Teaching Association as one of the Best STEM Books of 2021.
Meanwhile, due to his fondness for being able to buy food,
wear clothes and heat his home in winter, Plan B was to able to earn a living.
Hence he is also an experienced book publisher, journal editor and technical
writer.
Plan C was to become a publisher himself, hence the
short-lived Big Engine Ltd (2000-2003), after which he quietly reverted to Plan
B.
He is currently on Plan D, which is a handy blend of A and
B. Quite by accident and to his considerable surprise, he became a full-time
ghostwriter in 2015, and has now written over a million words of mostly fiction
for various clients (which is his answer to anyone who says he isn’t a real
writer). His latest non-fiction book Ghostwriting Novels: A Guide For
Ghostwriters And The Ghostwritten was published in 2024. He lives in
Abingdon and his web page is at www.benjeapes.com.
